The well respected photography art critic Vicki Goldberg writes about Mameli's work: «Indoors, in Grand Central Station, the unavoidable and riveting attraction of a single light in darkness emphasizes the significance of tiny, colorful figures standing alone, the omnipresent crowds having simply been blotted out.»
The figures capture by Mameli's camera «… are literally spotlighted, a term derived from theater, by light steaming in from a window, while the busy concourse around them has vanished into blackness. Mameli is in love with and inspired by New York City; she regards Grand Central Station, that major site of entrance and exit from the city and a place familiar from many movies, as a kind of collecting point for the magnetism, energy and vitality of the metropolis.»
